The LNER (GC) Heritage Trust has a number of projects currently open that we are appealing for support for. They are spread across the railway and heritage centre - so no matter what your interest, hopefully we have a project you feel you can support.

If you choose to donate via Paypal or Virgin Money Giving please include a note so that we know which project you wish to support.

Hotchley Hill Signal Box Roof

Recent examination of this iconic and unique signalbox has shown that urgent work is needed to the roof to prevent further water ingress and damage. This will allow stabilisation of the building in advance of full restoration that will be essential to support the passing of trains once the 18 mile railway is established.

The great news is that donations so far have enabled quotes for the repair of the roof to be obtained - with the repair of the work hopefully taking place in the first half of 2019.

We are now looking at the next stage - which will be the replacement of the (16) windows and (5) doors to make the structure weather proof once again. Current indications suggest that the cost will be £100 - £200 per window / door. So our next target is £4000. Can you help?

Transport Collection Building Extension

An exciting development sees the possibility to initially provide covered accommodation - and ultimately an enclosed display area for the road transport collection. The roof steels have been obtained and installed. Your support will allow completion of this vital piece of infrastructure for the heritage centre. Click on the image to support this project

Restoration of PD1

The restoration of our PD1 bus is approaching completion which, being a Leicester Corporation bus will provide both a physical and metaphorical link between the greater Great Central Railway as we work towards connecting the two projects. We are appealing for funds to complete the restoration work which is currently focusing on rewiring the electrical system. Click on the image to support this project

Rushcliffe Halt - Footbridge

Having supported the acquisition of the replacement footbridge from Shirley, we are now seeking support to overhaul the footbridge prior to installation at Rushcliffe Halt, recreating another piece of the lost railway and a unique place to watch the trains pass by. This will involve the preparation and painting of the steelwork and acquisition of the timber flooring. A trial restoration of one of the supports has commenced, funded by the LNER(GC) Heritage Trust to gauge the level of repair needed. Click on the image to support this project

Main Line Appeal -

Our oldest and on-going appeal, intended to provide funds to support the improvement and enhancement of the railway infrastructure of the Great Central Railway in Nottinghamshire. Click on the image to support this project

Platform Appeal -

Another longstanding appeal, intended to provide funds to support the improvement and enhancement of the stations of the Great Central Railway in Nottinghamshire - currently focused on supporting the development of the platforms on the railway. Our most recent support from this fund assisted in the extension of the station concourse at Ruddington. Click on the image to support this project

It is inevitable that at this key time in the development of the railway and heritage centre that the number of projects outstrips the resources - however the more support you can give us the sooner the dream of a Greater Great Central will be realised.

Don't forget you can provide general support by simply making a donation or setting up a standing order, by becoming a member or by using easy fundraising when you shop on-line and select the LNER (GC) Heritage Trust as your good cause...
